So you are thinking of taking a UX design bootcamp. You have done some research and have seen a few names pop up. CareerFoundry is one of these names and you want to learn more about them.

Avocademy and CareerFoundry both offer courses to help their students learn about and become job-ready in the UX design field. Get your chips ready, because The Guac is here to give you the scoop on CareerFoundry!

What is CareerFoundry?

CareerFoundry is a bootcamp program that has specialized in tech education since 2013. CareerFoundry is designed for career changers in the web development, UX design, UI design, and data analytics fields.

It is important to note that CareerFoundry offers two separate courses for UX and UI design. So it may not be the best for those who are looking for a joint UX/UI design course. Throughout the UX design bootcamp, you can expect to learn the basics of UX design, apply what you have learned to projects, and determine a specialization, all within a flexibly paced environment.

How much does CareerFoundry Cost?

Overall, CareerFounday’s UX design program costs $6,900 so it falls in the mid-to-high price range. However, they do offer different payment plans and options:

  • Pay upfront - You can decide to pay upfront and receive 5% off of your tuition, bringing the total to $6,555.
  • Pay monthly - If you want a more flexible payment plan, you can pay $1400 on the day you sign up and then $550 per month over ten months.
  • Pay Less Per Month - You can also apply for a loan with CareerFoundry's partner, Ascent, and pay roughly $158 per month over 6 months. However, it is important to note with this option that the cost of the installments is dependent on your approved interest rate.
  • Pay Later - You also have the option of paying $0 upfront and apply for deferment and pay up to three months after you have completed the course.
  • Custom - If none of these payment plans work for you, you can speak to one of CareerFoundry's program advisors, and they can help set up a custom payment plan just for you.

Not looking to put that much of a dent in your wallet?  Avocademy offers its UX design course for just $2,997. You can also take a look at these comparisons of The Best UX Design Bootcamps we have compiled.

How Long Does CareerFoundryTake?

CareerFoundry's UX design bootcamp is flexible and placed within a 10 month period. There are three deadlines written into the course to ensure that you stay on track.

CareerFoundry states that you should be spending 15-20 hours a week in order to complete the course within the allotted time period. However, if you have extra time that you want to dedicate, you can knock out the course sooner.

In contrast, Avocademy's course will take you about 8-16 weeks to complete.

What Projects or Experiences Do You Get Out of CareerFoundry?

When you have finished the course with CareerFoundry, you will have completed three app design projects that cover multiple aspects of UX Design. This includes creating personas, wireframe sketches, and usability testing.

Just like Avocademy, Careerfoundry also provides discounts and free trials of many industry-standard tools such as Sketch, InVision, and Axure.

You’ll also be able to communicate and connect with students from your area as well as globally.

Mentorship is available to you as well. You will have access to a student advisor, mentor, and tutor:

  • Your Student Advisor will help make sure you have the best possible learning experience.
  • Your Mentor will be a UX designer with over 8 years of experience and review your portfolio projects.
  • A Tutor is available to help you with the course material when you need it. They will provide feedback on course assignments.

It is important to note that although you will come out of the course with three great projects for your portfolio, this bootcamp does not have any real-world experience written into the course.

If real-world experience is an important factor for you, then check out Avocademy’s UX design course where you are able to work with other students on real-life client projects. These projects can be added to your portfolio, even after you have completed the 6-week course.

Does CareerFoundry Offer Job Search Help?

CareerFoundry provides you with a career specialist that will help you come up with a strategy for job searching. They will help you with your resume, portfolio, LinkedIn profile, and interview prep.

Avocademy will also offer job search help after your 8-16 week course completion.
